What 211 garage door enquiries asked for

We read the lead form answers from 211 garage door enquiries that came in through Facebook and Instagram ads over two months. They came from two garage door businesses we work with: one in Sydney that mostly installs new doors, and one in Melbourne that does repairs, motors and gate automation. Totals only, no names.

Here's what homeowners asked for, how soon they needed it, what they expected to spend and what time of day they got in touch. If you run a garage door business, this is who is behind your enquiries.

What do homeowners ask for most?

Whatever the ad and the form put in front of them. That's the first thing the data shows.

At the Sydney business, the ads show new door installs. Of the 53 people who answered what they needed, 38 wanted a new garage door installed and 13 wanted a new entry door. Only 2 picked something else.

At the Melbourne business, the ads and the form cover four services. Of 78 answers, gate automation came out on top with 26, then repairs with 22, a new motor, opener or remotes with 17, and a new garage door with 13. So 65 of those 78 people were after something other than a new door.

Homeowners ask for what you show them. If your ads only ever show repairs, install enquiries won't turn up on their own.

What is wrong with the door when people enquire about a repair?

The Melbourne business also runs a repair form that asks what the door is doing. 21 people answered it.

12 of the 21 had a door that wouldn't open or close, or had come off its track. A door stuck like that can't be left for next month. It's a small sample, but it lines up with the next question.

How soon do homeowners need a garage door job done?

Both businesses ask how soon. We grouped the answers from 193 people: 115 at the Sydney business and 78 on the Melbourne main form.

Roughly half need it within weeks or sooner (93 of 193). The other half are planning months out or still looking (100 of 193). On the repair form it's sharper again: 17 of 21 said this week or that it was an emergency.

That's two different buyers. The urgent half goes to whoever calls back first. The planners need to hear from you more than once, over a few weeks, before they book a measure and quote.

How much do homeowners expect to spend on a garage door job?

Only the Melbourne business asks for a budget, and 78 people answered.

Two thirds put themselves under $1,500. That fits the job mix there: repairs, motors, remotes and gate openers are mostly smaller jobs. But 11 people said over $3,000 straight up, and those enquiries deserve a call the same hour.

A budget question costs the homeowner one tap. In return you know who to ring first, and who is better suited to a repair than a replacement.

Melbourne business: What's your budget? (78 answers)
    • Under $1,50051 of 78, 65%
    • $1,500 to $3,00016 of 78, 21%

What time of day do garage door enquiries come in?

For time of day we used Meta's own record of lead form enquiries for both businesses over the 30 days to 17 October 2026: 249 enquiries, in local time.

113 of the 249 came in before 7am or after 5pm. The busiest block was 3pm to 6pm, with 54. Only 16 came in between midnight and 6am.

Part of that is because the ads get shown more in the evening, when people are on their phones. Either way, close to half your enquiries land while you're on the tools, driving home or having dinner. If nobody replies until the next morning, the urgent ones may have booked someone else by then.

    Who enquires about garage doors?

Same 249 enquiries, by the age Meta has on file. 212 of the 249 were 35 or older, and the two biggest groups were 45 to 54 (65) and 35 to 44 (64). One enquiry had no age on file.

Facebook brought in 161 and Instagram 88. Facebook did most of the work, but Instagram still brought in more than a third, so it's worth running both.

What to put in your ads, form and follow-up

    1. 01

Run a separate ad for each job you want

The install ads brought install enquiries. The mixed form brought mostly gates and repairs. If you want more new doors, they need their own ad made from your own installs, with their own form.

    2. 02

Ask how soon on the form, and sort by it

About a quarter say urgent. Ring those within minutes. Put the planners on a follow-up that keeps in touch for a few weeks, because half of your enquiries aren't ready to book this week.

    3. 03

      Add a budget question

One tap for the homeowner, and you know straight away who to call first. In this data, 11 of 78 said over $3,000.

    4. 04

Reply after hours without lifting a finger

113 of 249 enquiries arrived before 7am or after 5pm. An instant text and email that confirms you got it and says when you'll call buys you the morning.

    5. 05

Make the ad for homeowners 35 and up

212 of 249 enquiries came from people 35 or older. Show a finished door on a house like theirs, say what you do in plain words, and run it on Facebook and Instagram.
